Bundesliga Returns: Half-time thoughts

Here are some half-time thoughts on the return of the German Bundesliga; Borussia Dortmund vs FC Schalke.

Like the majority of fans around the world, my eyes have been firmly fixated on the Revierderby; Borussia Dortmund vs FC Schalke.

The game got off to a relatively steady start, with players adjusting to the unique conditions and finding their feet again.

Of course, the crowds are sorely missed, as the echo of players’ and staff’s instructions bounce around the empty stadium.

Although it was a steady start for Dortmund, players quickly adapted and were back to their usual high press selves.

So far, Real Madrid loanee Hakimi has been absolutely outstanding. In fact, both wingbacks for Dortmund have, with Raphael Guerreiro adding his name onto the score sheet to give Dortmund a two goal lead.

Scorer of the first goal, Haaland, has been an ever present threat for BVB - scoring his 10th goal in the competition.

As the line-ups were announced an hour before, 17 year-old Giovanni Reyna was set to make his full debut for Dortmund - that was until Thorgan Hazard replaced him with just a few minutes to go before kick-off. It was a decision that proved to be positive though, as Hazard set up Haaland with some brilliant play.

Of course, Premier League fans have had their fix of native talent in Jonjoe Kenny, who hasn’t had a bad start for FC Schalke.

However, the real prize is Jadon Sancho, who surprisingly started on the bench for BVB.

Here’s hoping that the young Englishman will be brought on during the second half.

Leagues around the world will be watching and looking at ways to bring football back.

The way that Germany have done it so far looks to be the most efficient method and we can hopefully expect a similar production in the Premier League.

So far it’s a game of class, as Dortmund lead 2-0.
