Premier League - Gameweek 23 round-up + Transfer News

It’s been another busy week in the Premier League.

We have been treated to some extra matches thanks to the midweek schedule with late wins coming from both Manchester City and Aston Villa, but the team grabbing the headlines is Newcastle United who managed to pull off a magnificent comeback against Everton!

The Toffees took the lead in the 30th minute through Moise Kean with his first ever goal for the blues, followed up by Dominic Calvert Lewin who doubled Everton’s lead in the 54th minute.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men seemed very comfortable and dominant throughout the game right up until the end where Newcastle’s Florian Lejeune scored two goals in the final two minutes of injury time to ensure that the Magpies came away with a point.

Manager Steve Bruce described the result as ‘’quite remarkable’’ and felt that even though his team didn’t deserve to get anything from the match, ‘’it just shows you what can happen’’ if you don’t give up.

From bad to worse

Elsewhere there’s bad news for Manchester United fans as striker Marcus Rashford had to leave the pitch in their FA Cup third round replay with Wolves last week. After having the appropriate scans, results have shown that the 22 year old has got a stress fracture in his back; however the duration that he will be on the side-lines for is currently unknown.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has assured fans that he will not rush the United forward back into training and that he will give him ‘’as long as he needs’’ to get back to being fully fit again. Rashford later posted on his social media channels saying that he will ‘’be back before the season ends’’ to try and help his team claim a top four Champions League spot.

where will the title be won?

Moving onto the current league leaders Liverpool, they are currently sitting pretty 16 points ahead of Manchester City in second place with a game to play still in hand.

The question on everybody’s lips no doubt, is just when and where can The Reds possibly win the title? Well… if both teams continue to play in their current form then Liverpool could clinch it at Goodison Park with a win over Everton on March 14th.

If this isn’t the case then they won’t have to wait much longer because if both teams carry on winning all of their matches for the foreseeable future, Liverpool have the opportunity to take the title at the Etihad on April 4th.

This would mean that Liverpool would be heading into that game on a total of 91 points, with the current holders Manchester City way below on a possible 72. This would leave only 18 more remaining points up for grabs meaning that The Reds would only have to avoid defeat in order to take the title away from City.

Transfer News

A couple of talking points from the world of transfers this week is that Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen is looking increasingly likely that he will be joining Inter Milan before the transfer window ends later this month.

It is rumoured that Inter initially made an £11m bid plus a bonus for the Spurs star; however this has been rejected by Tottenham who are believed to be holding out on their £17m valuation for him.

The Danish international has reportedly held a meeting with the Spurs chairman Daniel Levy confirming to him that his intention is to join Inter Milan this January.

Manchester United have also reportedly made a surprising £30m bid for 16 year old Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The Red Devils aren’t the only team who have been keeping an eye on him, with other Premier League teams and even some Spanish and German clubs were said to be monitoring the youngster.

It is yet to be confirmed whether this offer has been accepted or rejected but the official approach looks like it has definitely been made.
